Rajon Rondo and The Disgusting Thing He Calls His Jump Shot

CelticsHub.com had an interesting post on Friday discussing Rajon’s drop in shooting percentage on long range jumpers. For the last two regular seasons:
2007-8 2008-9
At the rim 220-405 (54%) 283-497 (57%)
Floaters 42-108 (39%) 32-90 (36%)
Long twos 84-186 (45%) 51-117 (43.5%)
Threes 5-17 (29%) 15-48 (31%)
So only a 1.5% decrease - not a huge difference but definitely not an encouraging sign. His shooting form is atrocious, the only worse form in the league is Shawn Marion. And at least Marion can hit an open jumper.
In a perfect world Rondo would rebuild his jumper this summer, bring his shooting percentage up a few points, and boom: an almost unstoppable offense. But that ain’t happenin’. Its broke and I’m pretty sure it can’t be fixed by the start of next season.
Since the window to win another title for this Celts team is presumably only 1 or 2 more seasons, the team is just going to have to count on Rondo to do everything he’s done for ‘em the last two seasons. The Rasheed signing gives them another shooter to spread the floor, and I think that might be enough to take the offense to the next level. Not to mention Marquis Daniels as a huge upgrade from Tony Allen.
We’ll see how good the Cavs are with Shaq, but as the Celtics are currently constructed I like their chances of hanging banner #18 from the rafters.
